Ireland and Ulster Captain Rory Best is the most-capped hooker for Ireland with an impressive 100 International and 179 Ulster Caps to his name. He is one of the most highly respected figures in Irish rugby and is a talismanic figure at Kingspan Stadium.
From a celebrated rugby and farming family and brought up in the ranks of Banbridge RFC, Rory joined Ulster in 2004 and made his Irish debut the following year. He can boast an historic Grand Slam, Triple Crowns and Lions selection at international level while maturing into one of the game’s most athletic, inspiring and enduring forwards.
In November 2016, Rory led Ireland to their first ever Test victory over New Zealand, ending the All Blacks’ record winning streak of 18 games. Ireland’s subsequent win over Australia in that same Autumn series resulted in Ireland achieving victories over the Southern Hemisphere ‘Big 3’ in the same calendar year for the first time in history. Rory has been a driving force behind every one of these landmark achievements.
A career high came in 2018, which saw him win a Six Nations Grand Slam and lead Ireland to number one in the world rankings, after twice defeating New Zealand and was the Irish captain for the 2019 RWC in Japan.
Since retiring, Rory has recently released his much anticipated autobiography.
