The mighty Charles Piutau is described as the player that ‘has it all’.
His fast feet and strength enable him to cut through even the most stubborn defences. He has made an impression on the Ulster fans and he has appreciated their warmth and wit throughout the season.
Charles joined Ulster in 2016 leaving behind the black jersey of the All Blacks and was the most anticipated sign up for years such was the reputation of the top try scorer for New Zealand U20s in their 2011 World Cup Championship winning campaign.
In 2012, at just 21, his exploits with Auckland Blues saw this versatile back promoted to the full international squad, and he made his debut in 2013 against France, copperfastening his place in the side before agreeing to sign in at Kingspan Stadium.
Before coming to Belfast the exciting Piutau starred for English Premiership side Wasps in the 2015/2016 season, and his stunning, powerful performances saw him nominated for the RPA Player of the Year.
The youngest of 10 siblings, Piutau was always a competitive sort. He grew up in Auckland, living in a garage adjoining the family house with his four brothers. There was a healthy competitiveness between them. His brothers took rugby seriously but just one of the four — Siale — made it professionally.
Charles is a stand out player both on and off the field. His humble and friendly nature make him the ideal ambassador working with brands and media. Instantly recognizable and a consummate professional, Charles faith, vision and talent are a credit to his Tongan family upbringing.
